The Blended Learning Unit (BLU) was a HEFCE Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) that ran at the University of Hertfordshire from 2005 to 2010. For more information about the CETL programme please see the HEFCE website. The BLU was incorporated within the University's Learning and Teaching Institute (LTI) with the aim to sustain and extend the excellent reputation and good practices established by BLU beyond the life of the 5 year project.

The BLU developed, promoted and evaluated the combination of established ways of Learning and Teaching and the opportunities offered by technology in order to improve students’ learning and increase flexibility in how, when and where they study. Further details of the BLU’s activities and outputs are summarized in its interim and final reports. The BLU’s Learning and Teaching resources have been integrated into those of the LTI, which can be found at the LTI website .

Although the BLU project formally closed in 2010, its work and ethos continue in the LTI and in the annual International Blended Learning Conferences which it founded in 2006.
