Turnitin is an internet plagiarism prevention service. It is used to check student’s submissions for unoriginal content. It can be used as part of a formative process to educate and inform students about the originality of their work. It can be used to educate about plagiarism and to improve student writing skills.  The use of Turnitin is not an end of it self but is part of a range of pedagogical approaches that are used to determine and feedback on the originality of students assessment submissions. It is important that Turnitin is used in a pedagogically sound and educationally valid way.
