Open Educational Resources and Copyright
Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning materials that are intended to be shared, reused or re-purposed within and across institutions. OER are often made available made available under the Creative Commons licence which allows the owner to keep the copyright to the resource whilst allowing other to use it (and depending on the the licence specified) modify the resource.
OER are often kept in repositories such as the OER Commons website, Jorum. You may also find Box of Broadcasts (BoB) provided by the British Universities Film & Video Council (BUVC) a useful resource.
OER are often in the form of Reusable Learning Objects (RLO) . These are self contained resources that are used to deliver specific aspects of leraning. RLO can take many forms and have varying levels of sophistication and complexity. Examples of RLO can be found at RLO - CETL a HEFCE funded centre for excellence in the design, development and use of learning objects.
